To achieve high participation and engage users, BiG applies gamification techniques and behavioral incentives. Gamification is an approach that uses game-based mechanics, aesthetics and game thinking to:

- motivate action,
- promote learning and
- solve problems.
Gamification is appropriate for everyday situations and for getting people to do things they ordinarily consider boring. At the same time, BiG deploys a point system, in which the more a player interacts with the content the more points they gain, thus achieving motivation through rewards. At this point it should be stressed that it is important that the designer of the game does not only pay attention to scores, points, rewards and badges, neglecting more critical elements of effective gamification.
The best approach is to consider the entire learning experience and not just its individual aspects. Storytelling comes into play as do the motivational aspects of learning.
